You can see the original post below and read through this thread if you'd like, but here's the basics:

- Planned a get together

- Had interest in the get together from others

- Confirmed time off from a work project for the get together

- Had problems during the project that necessitated additional overnight construction work the weekend of the get together

- I flaked on my own event.

You're now caught up. :D

Update: Location Set
October 29-30
Means Dry Lake, Johnson Valley
Exact directions to follow.

I'm headed back to the Los Angeles area for another project this month and I'll have a couple days off (99% sure) on the 29th and 30th. I'd love to get together around a campfire somewhere if anyone is interested. @Scott @bob91yj @Xpedition Outfitters @Chris Wharton are you guys game?

I may be game. I would have to talk to the wife first. What area where you thinking about?

I'm game for just about anywhere. That weekend is the weekend I transition from working nights to working day shifts the following week. I'll leave work Saturday morning and can drive anywhere within reason. Within reason with me is a bit crazy though...I've left work on a Saturday morning in San Diego and made it to the Grand Canyon. :D

I'll be watching the thread, it would be cool to get together again. That Friday is the "end of the month" for both Machelle and I at our jobs. That translates to a late start for us. It's going to depend on location. We've got Baja coming up two weeks after that.

How long are you on the left coast for? If you're going to be around Nov 17-21 consider joining us in San Felipe for the 1000. I can probably arrange transportation from the border crossing at Mexicali to San Felipe, then from San Felipe to the San Diego airport.

LCIR or Anza-Borrego/Ocotillo Wells would be the easiest for me, the worst for most everyone else. Somebody pick somewhere more central to all of us.

Lots of interest, and I really want to hang out with you guys and gals, but don't leave it up to the Georgian to pick a spot. I'm limited in my local knowledge and the internet has me looking at places like Alabama Hills, Joshua Tree and the Mojave National Preserve. Somebody with a secret local spot step up and make a suggestion...unless one of those three works for everyone. :)

LAX is pretty far west and north of some places you mentioned.

^^^^See post 4! The man is not afraid to travel!

I feel like a pansy ass because I'm on the fence until location is determined!

I'm always up for a,quick desert trip.. perhaps Johnson valley? For me I'd have to be there Thursday evening through saturday afternoon as I have to wotk sunday.. but I'm still down..

Not a lot to see out there except desert. We could get to the gatekeepers, and then walk a bit up a couple of Hammer's trails if anyone wants to get a look at what they are like. Sledgehammer and Jackhammer start at the same point, and Backdoor is easy to get a look at. If we feel adventurous we can drift out to 29 Palms territory, get chased and lit up on helicopter and tank fire control radars by the Marines (BTDT, makes for an interesting day).

The race course loop out there is 50-60 miles, race course should be pretty burned in and easy to follow.

That's a good point.. while I love the desert, there certainly isn't much to see out there.. I'm a desert rat so I always love it out there, but it is kinda bland to a lot of people. . Last time we were out there we camped off of Bessemer mine road and it was flat and dirty haha..

Never been to Johnson Valley and we don't have deserts in Georgia, let's do it! Now let's hope National has a worthy rental vehicle when I arrive.
