Lost a good man today. PeeWee Glass was a friend of my dads since I can remember. Over the years he became one of mine. At times he worked in the woods as a logger with rival companies but at the tail end of his working days he was one of our best employees. Good natured, quick with a joke and totally competent preforming any mill or woods job he came across. As an employee he never missed a day, worked harder than three men and never once said he couldn't do something. As a man he was totally honest, exhibiting the time honored ridgerunner trait of telling it like it is. He was kind and a big part of the community donating his time across several local services. And man, could that guy lay down a bluegrass tune on a guitar or banjo. He bought his first new car in 1977, a Jeep Scrambler, and drove it till the day he got to ill to be mobile on his own. That old Jeep still looks brand new, a testament to the kind of man he was.
They don't make men like this these days and everyday the world is a sadder place for it. I'm going to miss that old bugger. Say "Hi" to my grandpa in Logger Valhalla PeeWee, may your eternity be one of tall straight timber and big bussomed women.
