I knew a guy in college from Brazil. He paid his way through college by completely disassembling two dirt bikes and packing them into two suitcases and bringing them back to Brazil twice a year, at Christmas and at the end of the school year. He wouldn’t pack the tires but would pack pretty much everything else, put them together when he got home and sell them.
 
I've been watching online auctions of salvaged KLR 650's sell for more than new bikes to South American bidders. Where there's demand there are always enterprising individuals capitalizing on it I suppose.
 
Necessity is the mother of invention. I think it was Dan (don't remember his screen name 100hundredacre) that used that system to keep is dog cool in the camper.
