SomedayAdventure's "Polar Bear" Build Thread

I can't remember if I showed you guys the new switch location. It's really cool because it disappears when you don't want to see it.

I may be in Scotland...but that doesn't stop me from upgrading the Polar Bear.

Got another Snugtop for the PB as the one I have on the Bear was so awesome.

Aaaaand still more to come

I know it's in the previous picture, but I got lazy and forgot to talk about it before. Stupid me.

So I got a gift to upgrade Opa's Polar Bear. Something to match his theme and improve his winch.

Factor 55 installation:

I first found Factor 55 at the Overland Expo West event. I wanted to go and found so much inspiration. Life of course gets busy and it's hard to stay on top of things. That's about where I am right now. Everywhere I turn, there's something else to do. And no time to travel. Well, not for relaxation or exploration anyway.

They told me that the idea was to eliminate the flaws in the open hook for safer winching. If the cable were to fall to the ground without tension, the other loop going through the hook might get caught and pull on the spring tab and pull right through that. And that has no real load rating.

Swap out time.

Pull out the old cotter pin from the hook.

Then, it's important to stand there and look at them both side by side for about five minutes.

After that, installing the Factory 55 close link system is as easy as dropping in the titanium pin and putting in the springy thingy.

Looks pretty snazzy.

The face off.

Who wore it better, you decide!!!

My god it's been a while. Well, despite the fact that there is a lot to catch up on, I will say this...Polar Bear has some new changes and this chapter is called...Light Speed!

It's been a long time coming. Polar Bear has been resting on its laurels for far too long. It's solid stainless steel bumper was definitely not going to be enough twinkle to get it by. Something new had to be done not only for advancing the off road and on road experience, but to give it a cosmetic pop...you know, for fun.

Baja Designs is our choice for off-road lighting on our vehicles. Even with a slightly higher price point, the quality is everything we want out of the lights. That's why we jumped on the opportunity to install the new light system in Polar Bear.

The Baja Designs S8 lighting system, with its dual purpose lights and incremental 10 inch size variance, was perfect. The 30 inch S8 light bar seems to be a match made in heaven for the super duty grill. The three sections of amber light add to the classic diesel running light look and feel when rolling on populated roads.

Flip the second power switch and… POW! A centrally mounted lightbar tucked away and perfectly protected.

And boy is it clean looking!

AN OUTING WITH THE POLAR BEAR

My parents recently had an opportunity to take their "Adventure Rig" out on the road. They work a lot and my mother does not have an easy time getting time off unfortunately so it has to be planned well in advance. This time around, they were geared up with their own SnoMaster 60 fridge, a Basecamp shower and some other comforts.

The plan for them was to travel from San Diego to Yellowstone and put around in the Rockies.

The driving was not too labor intensive. It wasn't the point. My mom wanted to get out and see the countryside.

Because I got her the SnoMaster, she was able to contribute in the way WE would want her to. At least my dad.

I was happy to see she was happy.
