Random ADVENTURE Photos!

So I went out to get a pic of the Neowise comet from Skyline drive last night/this morning. That involved waiting until 3:20 am when it appears above the horizon at almost due east. Unfortunately my zoom lens was insufficient to get any detail with the comet at 16AU. Moon was also full an in the east so the sky was pretty bright.

While waiting I did get some other shots

Desert Bunker; Mexican border.

I stayed in this spot in the Chihuahuan Desert about four weeks straight for night sky work, documenting the record desert bloom, and to teach myself a bit about tracking.

I'd attached a couple of my FPG Thermashields to my awning to guy out at an angle to block the hot afternoon sun, then would roll 'em up at dusk for the night. Amazing amount of difference in temp behind those Thermashields. They have 12 rugged Gromolon anchoring points to which I would add a prusik knot loop for stretching along my guy lines, and tarp clamps along the top to attach to my awning edge.
