Project "Problem Child"

I left home early this morning with truck and camper to head to galaxy campers in Ontario, ca to have the owner, David, wire my truck up for the camper, as it wasnt yet completely wired, and i was using magnetic tow lights as my brake/turn lights. David was awesome. He quoted me a price and stuck to it, and the work he did was top notch and very professional. To top it off, he saw my turnbuckle and chain arrangement, promptly pulled some longer threaded hooks out of his pile of stuff and said "Here, take these and that will allow you to get rid of your chain arrangement.. ", I was willing to pay him for them, but he gave them to me and said it was because the job took longer than he originally quoted. It took longer because he had a customer that heard about him, from canada, with an emergency. So, he helped them out for a bit, which I was totally cool with. Overall, an awesome experience, and I can tell you any and all camper service I need will be going through David at galaxy campers.

Pulled my tail light lenses today and cleaned them up a bit.. They were caked in dirt pretty badly.. Here's a before and after picture. I also ordered some more LED bulbs for the tail lights, and for the 4 side outer lights...

Camera takes horrible pictures. Didn't get much time to work on the camper today as I promised my wife I'd keep the kiddo out of her hair so she could get some stuff done.

And some more pictures of the other side of the camper, and the back, for those of you who requested pictures. I took pictures in a turnout on my way home today. Never mind the vinyl trim falling iff, I gotta fix that. It came loose on the way home.

Switched over to Google, pics in the last post still don't come through.

All of your mods would be so much easier to validate if you make it to LCIR for the 4th!

After viewing more pics I'm thinking no more Queen Mary but how about Hotel California? :D
Works for me! I've been crashing on the fold out couch because I discarded the queen size mattress that was in it, and ordered a new one. New matress showed up today, so I get to put that in today!!

Was outside taking out the trash, and decided I'd flip on the lights to the truck, and the porch lights on one side, to give you an idea of what I did today.. replaced all my outer light bulbs with LED's.. For power conservation alone when boondocking. Tommorow I hope to test the seal on the toilet, and fill and flush the fresh water tank...

Didn't have much time to do stuff this morning, gotta do some work around the house. Poured some water into the toilet bowl about 30 min ago, and no leaks! Hopefully I can sneak out later and sanitize and fill the fresh water tank to test for leaks...

So, I made a little progress today. Hooked up my BBQ propane tank to the camper, and managed to light the stove pilot and the oven pretty easily. The generator would not fire, and the fridge would not light on propane. I haven't had a lot of time to diagnose the problem, but I'm hoping to spend a little more time on it later. I have the fridge plugged into shore power, and it works fine on that.. go figure. I'm sure it's something simple.. it usually is.

Is your 'fridge a manual igniter or automatic? It can take a few minutes to purge the propane line of air and get propane to the pilot/burner. I find that mine is much easier to light with a long BBQ style lighter than it is to use the electronic igniter. I will caution you about one other thing...if your fridge works off of 12v as well, you're usually fine while going down the road with the engine running, mine will kill the batteries within a couple of hours if left on 12v once the engine is turned off... ask me how I know that, and have verified the hypothesis!

It's an automatic lighting pilot. I let it try for 3 cycles of the on and off switch. Each time I turn on the switch, it tries to light the pilot 3 times. If it doesn't light after 3 tries, it gives up and you have to turn the fridge off and then back on again.

When I had the truck wired for the camper, I had them also install a battery isolator, which is designed to cut off any appliances running on 12V once it senses the truck batteries are below 13.5V... That being said, I don't plan on running the fridge off the coach battery if I can avoid it. At this point, i'm pretty happy that the stove top and oven both work. One thing at a time :) Right now, as it sits, I could camp in it, cook in it, and use my ARB fridge to keep stuff cool.. Working on it as I can, I'll get there eventually.

Unless the weather is crappy, or there are a lot of bugs, we don't usually cook in the camper. My camper interior space is pretty small, and it gets hot in there FAST. I wouldn't bury your current portable stove too deep in the never going to use it again pile.

Oh trust me, I plan on cooking mostly outdoors. Its just good to know it works...

Nothing real exciting happening... I replaced a broken vent cover, and tore all the shrunk and dilapitated wall paper off the walls. Now I am just trying to figure out what to replace the wall paper with. I don't really want to have to wall paper again if I don't have to... This week some time I am hoping to finally get the propane tanks re-certified and back into the camper, then we'll be almost ready for camping next month. Next steps will be filling the fresh water tank and sanitizing it, then making sure that it's working properly...
