These look interesting. I wonder how much they'll cost.

I’m a big fan of Pelican cases. Those new ones really look outstanding.

My only concern with larger boxes like these is the likelihood of overloading them. It’s easy to fill them up and then realize you’ll blow a disc trying to load them into the truck.

Two man lift, lift with your legs not your back! ;)

Roof mounted winch systems are the next big thing in overlanding....

With roof mounted stingers.

Someone actually did that. Had stingers on the roof and posted pics of it in the FJ Cruiser forum on Facebook. The response was brutal and swift.

I met a guy in Uwharrie wheeling once who had a winch mounted on the crossbar in his Jeep. He was paralyzed from the waist down and would hook the winch to the harness he was wearing to lift himself into and out of the drivers seat and into his wheelchair... it was a pretty slick set up.

While I like my Pelican 1650 Cases I tend to pack them heavy. Their large size means I pack stuff I don't need or use often and I want to downsize.

The Front Runner wolf pack containers that I have were a bit too short (and the Hi lids are still unavailable) for what I needed. So I started looking for something smaller than the 1650 cases. The Zarges K440 40702 (20.5 x 12.6 x 12.2) Aluminum Case on Amazon for $199 was cheaper then the equivalent Pelican 1607 case, with equivalent interior volume and a much smaller exterior volume so I picked up 2.

They're pretty common in Australia where they're used to pull a small aluminum boat up onto the rack. I've seen a couple of setups in the US that were similar as well as some hydraulic lifting arms to load and carry kayaks on top of (usually) vans like Sprinters and Transits.

Looks like the Pelican cases are out- I guess they're "overland" certified as they're more expensive than their regular cases. $450 for the BX140R for example and 35#s. Ex. https://www.pelican.com/us/en/product/cases/cargo/bx140r

They are very nice and clean looking cases though and the mounting system looks innovative if not somewhat overly complex and very expensive. The side mounting kit for the Tacoma bed rail is $280 by itself.
