Old school budget overlander

Like a lot of us out there I enjoy off road camping and have the dream/desire to do longer overlanding trips so I am building my rig with that in mind, the catch is I do not have a large amount of funds to work with. I did however get lucky and came up with a solid platform to build off. my base platform is a 1991 toyota dlx ex cab pickup.

Of course once you have the platform you need to build it!

step 1: the lift (superlift 6.5in)

Step 2: wheels and tires (33/12.5 r15 grabber mt)
step 3: rock sliders
step 4: recovery winch and aux lighting

Now that we hav a capable off road truck its time to set up the camping portion of the package.

step 5: the sleeping arrangements (truck topper)

Now we add the little touches

step 6: two awnings, side and rear with an arb delux room and front lightbar and rear and side light pods.

Of course we cant forget about trail coms. The truck is equiped with a 2m/70cm ham radio, a 10m ham/cb radio, and an inreach for sat coms.

But no rig is ever complete, but you can’t have an overlander without a navigator.

I am also seriously looking at coating the truck with bully liner in blue this spring. Has anyone else done this? What was your experience like? Pros? Cons?

Here is a mock-up

Love this truck. Well done. We found the ARB awning room to be an excellent addition. We have used it as a tent off the side of a trailer and now we use it off the side of our slide in truck camper for extra space when needed.
As for lining the exterior, I have not seen any that hold us or look reasonably decent with thick bedliner. However I have seen many with the bedliner that basically is super tough paint that look good.
Does that make any sense?
