Northern Lights?

I've never seen the Northern Lights, and it's something I really, really want to see.

I bring this up now because Truck Camper Adventure is preparing an article on seeing them with a truck camper, and is soliciting input - and pictures - from their readers.

Which prompts me to ask: How many of you guys have seen them? Were they as magical as the pictures suggest?

We used to lay in our saltwater hay fields here along the Maine coast and watch them.

Yeah, we thought they were pretty spectacular. Giant shifting misty sheets of light that at turns seemed to pulse, then spread and dissipate. Mostly blues and greens of varying intensity and transparency.

Haven't seen them in years, but would love to again:

So they can be seen in northern Maine. That's interesting. I thought you needed to way up in Canada or in Alaska to see them. Good to know. Thanks.

I think it was 2011 or so when they saw them as far south as Atlanta.. I can't remember what caused it.. some super eruption on the sun or somesuch.
