For those looking for an excuse to get out and do a little night photography, or even just a fine adult-beverage-sipping and viewing party, there will be a total lunar eclipse visible - weather permitting - on the west coast on the night of Wednesday January 31st.
Lunar eclipses only occur during full moons, but this will actually be a Super Moon (larger and brighter than the norm) and rather than turn black, the moon turns deep red, a so-called "Blood Moon".
