Java's F450 'Rough Road' RV

Finally some decent snow in the PNW! Baker got 38" in 48 hours. Go time.

Stopped and did some snowshoeing on the way up.

Pretty damn decent snow!

Hung out with friends by the fire until way too late....

Nearly no lines, great opening day.

Ski days 6 and 7!

Made it up to Baker to find an absolute disaster of a parking lot. 12-14" of new snow meant cars stuck everywhere, 3 loaders, a D8 dozer and two snow cats trying to clear things.... It was entertaining.

Woke up to another 8" overnight. Still nuking.

Light was a little flat, but the snow was decent!

Spent a few days parked and skiing out of the truck
49316850227_cb8a3e2618_b.jpg

Pretty sure all my batteries are getting tired.... The 6v's I got used and they are at least 5 years old. I pulled ~200Ah out of them and they were down to 10v :(

And the truck didn't want to start on the morning we had to leave..... And my house batteries were dead so I couldn't self jump.... It was cranking just fine, just I think a computer was pissed off about the low voltage. Luckily I carry a long ass extension cord, and was able to plug into a power site a few cars down. Started right up after a min of charging (on the charger which would bring the voltage up).

So I am in the market for new starting batteries, and a lithium jump pack I think!

Finally proper tow bridle setup! All rated 8T+ WLL. Keeps angles less than 102 degrees, spreads loads between the frame rails, which at this this weight I have decided is kinda important.

3 3"x6' straps. One future tree saver.

Rated 8800 lbs with a 5:1 safety factor. Overhead rigging gear.

Two CM screw pin shackles for the truck connection, 8.5T WLL, the rear is hard edged, front would be soft shackle ok.

Less than 120 degrees, and a factor55 double able soft shackle at the connection point. Double'ed was supposed to double the MBS. Ideally no hard items in the breakable linkage.

This get coupled with a 1.25" kinetic rope, and I have 1.25" shackles for the rear if needed.

Looks good. I have always like using a bridle setup, just for the fact that it distributes the load across both frame rails, greatly reducing the chance of tweaking the frame. Only other option I like to use is a hitch point, since it is tied to both rails as well.

Big trucks need big recovery gear. :)

Agreed on the bridle. Big trucks bend stuff faster too.....

I am over capacity for every 2" receiver I have found. But I now have very good tow points front and rear.

Straps are zip tied flat and stowed behind the drivers seat with the kinetic rope and all the shackles etc.

What a nutty weekend. Headed out late on Friday, with a big storm coming in.

Did not make it very far.... Highway closed. Tree fell and a car hit it. But they cleared in about an hour.

Made it to the pass as it was nuking snow. Parked finally.

Get up early! We got 4th chair Sat and 6th Sunday. Line gets big!

It didn't stop snowing..... This was Sunday 7am

And then this..... Pass closed in all directions. I guess we are spending another night..... At least we have a nice spot to sleep, unlike the employees.... WSDOT did take a group down Eastbound, but quite a few slept in the lodge.
49385004051_18c60b7b31_b.jpg

We moved to a different spot, and got a bunch more snow. This was Monday morning now. Luckily I just had to shovel the windshield and hood, and was able to pull right out of that spot. 4x4 low FTW! Waited for a couple hours in the morning, hoping they would open the road, but after talking to a truck that had run the West side it wasn't happening. Trees down, lots more threatening to fall. A car hit by a tree. Semi truck out of gas, no power, no gas. They did open East, so we started the long trip home.... Big loop with two more passes, but it was the only real option. Pass is still closed.

Stopped to shovel the roof off. The truck felt REALLY heavy with that up there.

Made it home finally. Truck is filthy from all the road grime.... Long trip, but great skiing!

I got off the mountain Friday afternoon at the right time! No crowds when the highway is closed!! Bet Sunday was awesome!

Highway 2 is still closed and more snow tonight!!

Another great day at Baker! Until it rained all night.....

New inverter charger. Had to go with the 3kw as the 2kw that I wanted is the "compact" model and 6" taller.... New control panel for all the Victron stuff to talk to each other.
49420540217_e27a315363_b.jpg

Since I was planning 2kw not 3kw, all my connections are undersized..... All new connection goodies for 400A. The inverter is set up to run dual 1/0 cables for pos and neg. Not quite sure how its all going to fit..... Fingers Crossed.
