Many will remember watching the Budget Overlander concept materialize into a capable-yet-practical adventuremobile, equally suited to moderate-plus trail use and economical family commuter duties. A small lift and larger tires were fitted, along with armor for the vulnerable bits and everything else needed for safe self-supported back country adventures. The end result was a surprisingly capable machine that “wheels” like a skateboard, and can hang with more traditional 4x4s. I laughed at that last bit too, but hey, it does have more ground clearance than both the new Cherokee Trailhawk and the beloved XJ of old.
