The GCI Cook Station is durable and well thought out. It’s a great piece of kit for home and camping use.
Well, ladies and gentlemen, GCI outdoor comes through once more with an awesome product, the Slim-Fold Cook Station. We have been putting it through the paces at home and out on the trail since December. It’s been on our camping adventures out in the elements overnight in the snow and the rain with temperatures ranging from -4 up to 100 degrees. I am happy to say that it has held extremely well.
It is constructed out of powder-coated steel is super sturdy and built very stout similar to the GCI Freestyle Rocker chair that we love so much (click here to check out the Freestyle Rocker review).
Also just like the chair, it folds up almost flat. The entire unit is a one-piece design which means quick hassle-free set up/ break down and transporting is super convenient with their integrated carrying handle built into one of the sides.
The Cook Station has a nice aluminum counter in the center that is a great place to your camp stove or other hot items up to 48 lbs. Bellow that in the center is a steel rack that is perfect for a small cooler or pantry.
Additionally, it has 4 sturdy plastic table top shelves two on each side that flip up from the sides that are rated to carry 30 pounds of gear each! GCI has cleverly built in some useful features into these side tables. Each of the four tables, such as a frosty beverage holder, cutouts for wine glass, hooks to hang utensils from and even a paper towel holder.
One of the biggest drawbacks with the Cook Station its weight is also one of its strong suits. Its heavy steel construction makes it one tuff piece of kit. We like it so much that it gets used at home when grilling on the back deck almost as much as we do when camping and it quickly became one of our go-to pieces of gear.
