American Adventurist is a North America focused adventure travel lifestyle Forum and Independent Magazine.

The American Adventurist Forum is intended to provide a warm, friendly atmosphere for the American Adventurist community. In order to maintain order and a sense of community, all users should read and follow the rules listed below. By participating in the forum, users are affirming their willingness to comply with these terms. This memorandum has been created to provide you with information about what you can expect here, what is expected of you, and to answer some questions you may have relating to your use of the American Adventurist Forum.

This site respects the American traditions of free speech without politically correct censorship with the following caveats:

    The Staff

-American Adventurist isn't run blindly "by the rules". Rather, it is moderated by people who put themselves in the position of making difficult judgment calls. At the end of the day, we will do what's best for the Community. We reserve that right.

-Most of these Rules are geared towards improving the Community through smart tips. Some of these Rules are more prohibitive and must be adhered to. The rules come in two-forms: the Golden Rules, and the Rules of Etiquette.

    The Golden Rules

-Trolling is prohibited. Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Substance is the key to not being labeled a troll. If you encounter a troll, don't feed it.

-Use of offensive and inflammatory language, flaming, name calling, and humiliating or bashing members is prohibited here. Rude, combative posting and self-victimization are also prohibited.

-Do not post or solicit any kind of racism, sexual harassment, discrimination, or any behavior deemed to be intentionally abusive or inappropriate. Personal attacks are defined as Personal, Racial, Ethnic, and/or Gender based insults, slurs, or derisive comments. Do not make posts that directly, or indirectly, debase or dehumanize the opposite sex.

-Cite your references, give credit to authors and use real data whenever possible. Do not cite unpublished articles, we have a low tolerance for hyperbole and tinfoil here. You may attack the message, not the messenger. You may criticize ideas, not people.

-If you post it, you own it. Stand by to discuss. Failure to respond to logical challenge and debate in an intelligent and civil manner may result in banning. We have a no drama policy here, Big Boy Rules apply.

-All Member complaints need to be communicated privately using either PM or the "Report this Post" feature. In the event of this, the offending post may be edited or removed upon review by a Moderator, and the offending party shall receive no more than two (2) warnings via PM, or publicly, from a Moderator.

-If the behavior continues, the member will be Banned for a week, and upon a repeat incident, they may be Banned Permanently.

-This is a family site. No pornographic, sexually offensive or sexually explicit material or remarks. Simple rule, Moderators judgment applies here. We'd like for our members to be able to visit the site at work and share with friends and family without worry over any inappropriate content.

-Post in the right forum! Even if it's only humor, an observation, or angst, if it's about something that we have a forum for, post it there.

-Respect the privacy of others. Do not post other's personal information online. This includes PM's.

-Each member may have only one account.

-And of course, NO SPAMMING. We reserve the right to remove or modify suspect posts at our discretion and without explanation.

    Rules of Etiquette

-Use descriptive subject lines and research your post. This reduces the chances of double-posting, and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read. Scan the subjects of the last several days' posts to make sure you aren't duplicating posts. Also, consider what forum your topic should be posted in. English is the only language spoken here at American Adventurist.

-Restrict the use of foul language. Excessive swearing will not be tolerated on this board at all. Because of the fact that it is a family-oriented site, we need to keep it clean. We aren't saying you can't express your opinion, but there are ways to do so intelligently.

-Bottom line: we usually give warnings (with the exception of blatantly unacceptable posts), but we don't necessarily give them more than twice to the same person. If you are disrupting the Community, we will take action.

    **Special Notices:

    1. In light of our policy of encouraging candid, open exchanges of views and the rapid distribution of information originating from many sources, American Adventurist cannot determine the accuracy of information that may be uploaded to the forum.

    2. No politics or religion at the Bonfire. The Bonfire is our family friendly area so post accordingly. 2nd Amendment topics are allowed in the Armory, Range and Hunting section. Please save ALL other political topics for a real Campfire.

    3. We do not intend to censor messages or images based on the opinions expressed within posts, but we will enforce the policies outlined here on the Forum.

    4. We reserve the right to remove, modify or move posts at our discretion and without explanation.

    5. We do not remove user posts, threads or user accounts on request.

    6. Opinions, advice and all other information expressed by participants in discussions are those of the author. You rely on such information at your own risk. You are urged to seek professional advice for specific, individual situations and not rely solely on advice or opinions given in the discussions.

    7. Your purpose in joining American Adventurist or posting here should not be purely to promote, advertise, or otherwise call attention to your site, blog, product, or business unless you have prior permission from the site owner. If you are interested in Sponsoring, advertising or promoting with American Adventurist send Dave a PM. See #15 and #16 below.

    8. Self-promotion: Self-promotional links to your blog, site, video channel, product, business, etc. are limited to your forum signature and your user profile. Vendors who are not site Sponsors may not send unsolicited PM's to our members hawking their wares. Memberships created solely for these purposes will be banned. See #15 and #16 below.

    9. The Marketplace Forum is for Member to Member sales and trades here on AAV. Links to items for sale on another Site or Forum (Vendor, Ebay or Craigslist links to good deals etc) belong in the Internet Exchange Forum.

    10. If you bring suit, propose to sue, or infer legal action against American Adventurist, its staff, or the website owner, your account may be disabled and any company related accounts may face restrictions.

    11. Privacy Policy: We will not release any member information unless under court order to do so.

    12. We do not monitor private messages. But we will investigate all allegations of PM abuse. Posting of private messages is prohibited.

    13. We reserve the right to modify and amend these terms at any time without notice. It is your responsibility to remain informed of current American Adventurist policies. We further reserve our right to disable any account at any time for any reason and without notice.

    14. Rights to Posted Content: Per the Terms of Service for this site, any content uploaded or posted to American Adventurist may be displayed on this forum by American Adventurist. Once posted, you grant American Adventurist the right to display and store the Content you provide. American Adventurist reserves the rights to all user generated content shared on American Adventurist.

User grants to American Adventurist, and its partners and affiliates, a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual license:

    (i)To copy, reproduce, display, transmit, perform, or otherwise use any content or material submitted or posted on American Adventurist’s Site, for promotional uses, or for other uses furthering American Adventurist’s community goals;

(ii) To create derivative works, such as compilations, collections, or translations, based upon the underlying content or material from user, which American Adventurist hall also be permitted to copyright and use as granted under 17 U.S.C. §§101, et seq., and

(iii) The authority to take legal action on behalf of the user regarding the content or material as related to copyright violation. This could include, but is not limited to, sending cease and desist letters to third parties for porting part or all of American Adventurist’s Forums to another site or filing a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) notice. American Adventurist may contact you before taking such actions.

    15. Forum Etiquette for Bloggers and Outdoor Industry Insiders: We ask that you give us a solid "intro" to your article/blog post etc that includes 2-3 quality photos to illustrate the best of your experience/product and a brief executive summary or synopsis of the subject with your link. This will more than likely encourage our readers to learn more and tells readers you're enthusiastic about ________ and that they should enjoy the subject too.

If your only posts here on this Community Forum are solely to drop links to guide traffic "back to your site", you will not be meeting the basic requirements for membership here. We expect a higher level of interaction than just self promotion or blatant link dropping. Post up, ask and answer questions, share with the Community as a PERSON first. Vendor, blogger, industry insider dude or just regular Joe we should all be here for the primary reason this Forum was created - to share information and have fun!

In closing, don't expect to submit a minimal effort post here on our Forum to "click my link for neat stuff" without adversely affecting your reputation with our readers. If you don't have the time to capture our interest here on this site why should we bother to follow a link to your site?

    16. Forum Etiquette for Sponsors and Vendors:
American Adventurist was founded on telling it like it is. That said, if you are a sponsor, vendor or manufacturer here and your product comes up in discussion, American Adventurist has no responsibility to defend you or your business. If you make it or sell it, you own up to it. Stand by to discuss. Failure to respond to logical challenge and debate in an intelligent and civil manner may result in banning. We will make no special rules for your benefit at the cost of our Members. Your reputation is everything - Earn it.

A NOTE ON THREAD DELETIONS: We have a policy of requiring a review by staff prior to members deleting entire threads. Once people are posting in a thread it takes on a life of its own. It is extremely unfair to those who took the time to contribute here if we allow members to selfishly collapse entire threads. If a member is not 100% willing to stand behind what they say, then they should not post at all. In a nutshell, member editing of posts is unlimited, individual posts can be deleted at will, entire threads cannot. If you have an issue PM a Moderator and the staff will consider thread deletions on a case by case basis within the framework of what is best for the member and what is best for the Community.

If there are any rules or policies you do not understand, please contact a Moderator.

Finally; any abuse towards our staff in any form, may result in immediate suspension of your account here at American Adventurist.

Warning: Your postings on this public forum will become public via search engines. Your text will be available to anyone with an internet connection. Note that the exception to this is the Armory, Range and Hunting forum which is Members Only i.e. private and not open to bots or search engines.

Further note that we do not allow registration of individuals under the age of 18. We reserve the right to disable any account created with fictitious registration information.
