Drones in Canada

This is probably one of the major reason's why the law came into existence. If not the reason why.

Idiots ruining it for everyone else.

"METRO VANCOUVER - Transport Canada and Richmond RCMP continue to investigate a video posted on YouTube that shows a drone flying too close to a commercial aircraft landing at Vancouver International Airport.

Police say they received a report from traffic control on Monday afternoon about a square unmanned aircraft flying over a runway on the north side of the airport. Investigators have been searching to find the person responsible but have not yet located anyone."

Read the info section on that video.....

Read the info section on that video.....

That info section is total, cover-my-ass, BS.

That drone is at the height of incoming aircraft. Also from the first and last frame of the camera pan you can get pretty close to where that drone was flying based off the highways and other ground features and it's right about here [google maps link].

Just out of curiosity.

I nearly recreated the view from the drone's last frame in Google Maps placing it near the center of the Fraser River on the railroad bridge near highway 99 / Oak st.. Won't get it correct because the camera on the drone was using a wide angle.

Wanted to see if I can figure out how close he was.

I used the edges of the buildings of the industrial complex in the foreground because it's very close to the center line.
Near visual centerline.png

I then found the same features in google maps and recreated the line.
Around 1000 ft from the flight path.png

My guess was the drone was flying about 1000 feet away from the flight path. Assuming that the path is a straight line out from the runway.
