9 days on the road with a lead foot to Desert Rendezvous loaded down with all my gear across FL>AL>MS>LA>TX>NM>AZ and back again.

I reset the computer when I left home. This was on the return trip. I think the gas mileage on the JL was acceptable, especially considering my size 14 and haste:

Well, the wife has decided that she want's a camper trailer with AC so here we go. Looks like I'll be selling the JL and getting something with better towing numbers.

It's been a fun build, but the demand signal has changed :D

The Gladiator Sport with Max tow has pretty decent tow ratings....or you could get a F-350 dually and call it good.

Check out TCTeardops in Wisconsin. Not overtly overlandy, but it's overlandable while still retaining the functionality and comfort of a traditional teardop.

If you are looking for something a little bigger than a TD, look at a Little Guy Max. 21 feet long, 3150 lbs dry. Not too big, easy to tow - the heat and A/C work very well.
