ARB Awning mount questions

I have an ARB Awning and room enclosure I picked up used from a buddy. After some of my recent vehicle juggling, it looks like this set up will get mounted onto our Rockwood pop up. Any reason I could not just drill through the aluminum stip on the awning and the side of the pop up top and bolt it on there. Of course I would use appropriate waterproofing, but any reason I should not do it this way?

Thanks for input. First trip of the season coming April 9 and is a family trip so want to get this together.

A lot of the pop ups are pretty thin, probably a good idea to use a backing plate on the bolts
