Brent messaged me on Facebook asking what was going on this weekend, and I didn't have plans, but Apryl had to work. Initially my plan was to camp at Culp Valley since the previous weekend there I found it was a nice place to camp, but Brent wanted to try and camp at Font's Point itself, to get shots of the sunset that evening and sunrise the next day. A quick invite sent to a few other people, and we ended up getting Trump to come along.
I met up with Brent and his dog Diego in Lakeside on the 67 at noon, and headed into Anza Borrego via Montezuma Valley. Mark wasn't able to meet up with us here, and would catch us in the valley.
On our way through Borrego Springs, we happened upon an fly-in at the Airport in town. There were Pitts biplanes and Extra 300's and quite a few others. One plane at a time, they did some nice aerobatics overhead. We sat here in the shade of Brent's van and watched for quite awhile. Eventually, Mark was heard on the radio that he was coming down the Montezuma grade. So we waited to leave until he got there, then it was off to Font's Point, which wasn't far from where we were.
Once at Font's, we parked, grabbed our chairs and beverages, and walked up to the point. We sat there the rest of the afternoon until after sunset into the dark. We talked with the other visitors as they came and went. We moved our chairs from the point back to the parking area, set up camp, and began cooking dinner. I made hot dogs for Mark and I, not sure what Brent and Diego ate.
I never have tried to camp here before but it turned out great. The wind was a bit strong, but not much of a problem for any of us.
It turned out to be the perfect scenario, because camping anywhere else in the park would have required getting up early, packing up camp, and trying to beat the sunrise to Font's Point. My alarm clock was a group of people getting out of their car and slamming the door trying to hurry to the edge of the point to catch the sunrise. Mark and Brent were already up and headed to the point as I got out of my tent. Then we waited a half hour or so for the sunrise.

After sunrise, Mark and Brent were still taking photos, but the wind was nice so I got out my new Slingshot B2 two Line foil kite to fly for awhile. After that we headed back to the vehicles to make breakfast and leave the point to explore some trails leading to the dry lakebed on the north side of the S22. Puttering around there for awhile, it was getting close to lunch time, and the trails were leading to dead ends and "Official Vehicles Only" areas, so we turned back towards Borrego Springs to get lunch at Jilbertos Mexican food. Watch what you order, because the dishes are big!
After lunch, it was up the grade to head back home.
