It's time to start planning for the Camp Cooking Competition for the 2024 Mountain rendezvous.

There is a new format this year:

Competition will be for MAIN dishes only.

You MUST cook at the main fire ring. Charcoal may or may not be permitted depending on fire risk.

Prep work can be done at home or in camp, but please don't cook at home and merely warm your dish up at the fire ring.

Any cooking method is welcome DO, Skittle, BBQ, griddle, etc.

Part of the fun is to let others watch, learn and be inspired to be a better cook while camping.

Voting and Prizes:

1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes will be awarded.

Everyone will get three voting tickets to vote for their favorite MAIN dish, either 1, 2, or 3 tickets for the dish or dishes you like.

Competiors are allowed to vote for their own dish. I mean it's the best dish there, right?

Children can vote as well with help from their folks.

Competitors are responsible for providing their own tin/cup/container for ticket to be deposited into. *Decorate them to attract votes!

Competitors will receive ONE extra raffle ticket regardless of how many dishes you make.

Other important details:

Register at the check-in table prior to 2:00 PM on Saturday to make sure you are entered in the competition.

You will
receive a numbered tag that will be turned in with the tickets earned from voting.

You may serve from either the potluck table or from your cooking station if you prefer.

It is your responsibility to bring your voting tin with tickets collected to the check-in table by 5:45pm for counting. You will get your voting tin/container/cup back at that time.

If you are coming to the potluck, but not competing, bring something to share (main, side or dessert).

***If you only bring an empty tray and don't contribute, the indigestion nymphs will descend upon you with great fury.***

Any cooking method is welcome DO, Skittle, BBQ, griddle, etc.
Is this what you meant?

If you aren't competing please contribute with a dish to share whether it be a main, side, or dessert.

Thank You

New Format. Rule clarification on what a MAIN dish is please.

Okay. I could see that those award winning (2nd place) pickled onions would not qualify.

Is it possible to compete with a Salad? There are those "Bad Hunters" that eat salads as
a MAIN dish. I would not want to miss out on a participation ribbon.

Thank you.

I’d say hell yes if it had 5 heads of iceberg right out of the garden and 40lb of open range raised brisket mixed in. But the Brisket better be cooked by the main campfire. “Competition is for main dishes cooked at the main campfire staging area”.

A main dish is… well, a MAIN dish. Just like at home or a restaurant.

For the purposes of this event, a salad wouldn’t qualify because you don’t COOK a salad.

:)

One other "rule" worth clarifying:

I always interpreted the "start cooking" time in the published itineraries as a guideline to help people plan their Saturday.
Other folks seem to have interpreted that as a rule that one should not start cooking before this time. (Said people seemed to be unhappy that I was braising pork shoulder for several hours before dinner...)

As long as we do our cooking at the main fire ring, and don't interfere with other evolutions (afternoon tech-talks, etc.), are we good to go to cook as long as needed? (Within reason)

Absolutely. The “start time” is aimed at controlling the land rush at the serving area. The Sooners would set up there on Thursday if we didn’t delineate a time to setup.
