The bar has some turned bungs welded in that let a socket head cap screw sit flush, and a rubber bushing to provide some compliance to the hard mounted radiator hoop.

As I have a huge interest in suspension design and tuning, I wanted to start out with a good ruybber bump stop but leave the option open to run a hydraulic bump stop later on. I made up some patent pending FakeBumps(TM) that hold a GM rubber bump stop. Always fun to put the old LeBlond to use.

Pulled the springs in the front, and all but the main leaf in the rear so the truck is at full bump, if I were Mieser this would no doubt be my target ride height:)

The front was really tough to package, and may still need some clearancing once I have it all together and can really flex the truck. The Passenger side landing pad sits on top of the panhard bar bracket

The Bosch fuel pump i'd been using earlier when I fired it up apparently siezed up from sitting for 6 months - sucks, but I kind of had second thoughts to using the stock tanks and an external fuel pump anyways. I ended up buying a tank for a CJ, adapting a walbro fuel pump to the fuel pump/sender unit, and making up mounts to hang it behind the axle. Its a really tight squeeze and I may need to massage the skid plate some to prevent axle housing contact at full bump.

It looks like it hangs down low but its above the axle at full bump. I think I may end up making a custom tank down the road, but this will work and get me driving at least.

Didnt get any decent shots of the tank mounts, I welded on a piece of angle iron between the frame rails for the front, and added rivnuts through the rear crossmember at the back. I made spacers to take up the gap.

What's this - an actual update?
With the bump stops worked out, the rest of the fab needed on the suspension is easier to tackle with the axle out from under the truck, and the engine out of the way. I also wanted to clean up the firewall, patch up a bunch of un-needed holes, and get it ready for paint. I’ll be doing the same as under the truck – primer, sound deadedning (Lizard Skin), but with an additional layer of DEI heat shield.

Found what I think will be a nice fit for the air cleaner – it’s a stock part for a H2 hummer. Uses the Donaldson Powercore filter, should be easy to get replacements. It sits on top of the passenger inner fender like it was designed to be there.

Finished up the lower shock mounts, and burned in most of the brackets on the axle. It was one of those evenings where welding clicks (despite not doing much for the past year) so I just went for it.

Next steps are finishing burning in the suspension brackets on the axle and frame, a bit more fab work for the bumpstop cans on the frame, and deciding on whether to tackle the gears myself or have someone do it. Leaning towards the latter in the interest time. Also can work on painting the firewall, and building the final electrical panel based on the plywood mockup.
 
About time for an update - I have been working on the Scout, just not very quickly. We had another kid in April of last year, a little girl, and the 2 kids plus new job eat up a lot of time as i'm sure most of you know.

Tackled tig welding the threaded tube ends for the front links, took forever but i'm happy with the end result and I learned a lot. I tried my best to move from link to link and not overheat the threads, but still ended up needing to chase the threads. I think next time I'd either leave the joint threaded into the bung or make a plug to pull heat out of the thread area.

Next couple of steps in no real order: Exhaust, Plumbing, Build the electrical panel - basically trying to get it moving under its own power before the damn kids are old enough to drive it.

New guy here. I actually join just for this project. So thanks for sharing.
I have a few questions. I see you welded in DOM tubing to mount the steering box. Are you reinforcing the tubs or are the welds enough?
Second, an forgive me if I'm wrong, I see you cut out the front frame cross member the one that was interfering with the fan. Did you re-weld it in at the front for frame strength or did you do something else. I ask because I'm doing a LS swap myself and this is the most detailed and informative build I have been able to find.
