Finally getting to do some exploring & camping

We are finally able to get out & explore & camp. March 25th thru 29th heading for the Ozarks "National Forest" between this Covid thingie, cold weather, home construction projects finished. Now it's time to head out. There’s some new spots to camp after the logging is done.

Yesterday I pulled the tires off, & repacked the wheel bearings, checked the air pressure in the tires & spare, charged up the battery & changed the sheets & pillow cases. Went through all the camping equipment.

Plus I will get to see how some of the new suspension work I had done on my truck will do.

..

I'm envious, Don! Still not quite family camping weather up here in Maine, though getting closer and I'm sorting, selling, cleaning and refitting things.

Hey Don! What timing.

Trailer looks great - definitely time to get out.

We are planning on heading to Arkansas the week of the 29th, and I wanted to ask you for some suggestions as to where to go.

We've done a little exploring around Arkansas, and would like an "insiders" perspective. ;) With so many National and State Parks, it's hard to know where to start.

We will have the teardrop, so dirt road exploring and hiking is what we are looking for.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks!

We have lots of favorite places to go Scott. The National Forest in Arkansas is so vast & huge it's hard to focus on areas that are better than others. What direction you are coming in from?
Ouachita National Forest is the largest & has the most majestic peaks with panoramic views like Grindstone, Crystal Mountains, Pinnacle Mountains. Parts of TAT (trans america trail) runs thru that area. If you choose that area you'll need to stop @ the Oark Cafe, best food & their peanut butter pie is to die for.

We also like the Ozark National Forest this area Sally & I spend most of our time there, above Gunner Pool Recreation Area & Barkshed Recreation Area which is North Sylamore Rangers District Area of the Ozark National Forest. This area is mostly views, creeks & is smaller area than Ouachita National Forest. Lots of drivable dirt roads & trails. Becareful of there being homestead land "private" they are usually marked with purple paint on the trees & post through out. Overall sounds like Ouachita National Forest is what your looking for with hiking trails, mountain bike trails, state parks, & other sites. The photo's are of North Sylamore Rangers District Area. NOTE* if you choose to hit the North Sylamore Rangers District just a piece of advise stay out of Leatherwood, it's a wildlife wilderness area with strict regulations. Adventure Travelers \ Overlanders can get in some legal trouble exploring in this area. https://www.fs.usda.gov/activity/ouachita/recreation/hiking/?recid=10712&actid=50

Thanks, Don.

We will be coming from the east - Georgia.

Peanut butter pie, huh? From my research so far, it seems good food is really a thing in Arkansas. Definitely looking forward to it.

I will take your suggestions to my maps, and see what I come up with.

Thanks again - really anxious to get back on the road.......
