Thinking of DIY trailer???

So I am thinking about a "Camper" but for our budget it must be DIY and I would like it scalable. Start simple and cheap and add parts/accessories as we go. I am currently thinking a "tear drop" or small. I work at a cabinet shop and we have a nested CNC router so the shell should be pretty easy for me to cut. The sourcing all the parts/accessories that is currently putting a damper on things. Do you know of a good camper supply place?

Some things I am looking for a source and ideas:

Trailer Kit / Trailer Frame
Door Hardware (Latches/Hinges)
Windows
Ligthing - Both trailer running lights and interior/exterior

Any other input?

I'm not at my computer right know, but if you PM me I'll send you some info on mine when I get back.

you can look at my build thread in my signature, it is a harbor freight frame and wood. Working in a cabinet shop you should be able to put one together pretty quick. I look forward to seeing your finished trailer at OVX in a couple weeks :D

Dinoot trailer and compact camping concepts both have lots or parts and information

If you want to start with an already built trailer, the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot sell small mower trailers cheap and there's a place up near Barnardsville called Buckner trailer sales that beat everyone's prices in the Asheville area. I've bought two from them and been using them heavily for the past ten years. PM or call me for their number.

Hey Caleb, I actually have an extra trailer I was thinking about scrapping. It used to have an older camper sitting on it. I'm not sure my buddy still has the title. If not you can always register it in Maine for $14.00 as they register everything. If you rebuild it into a home made trailer you can register it at such here in NC. Serial Number 0001. It has a really great hitch.
$250 or trade for something interesting, and it's yours. I can't post pix because it's raining Elephants and Porcupines.

Guys,

Thanks for the ideas and links... Great info!

100arce,

Yea I ran your trailer (other trailer) by the wife (I was all excited) but she shot it down... "What a tent, NO I want "Hard Sides" between my daughter and any possible bears".... Ok honey if you need that to go camping I will find/make or otherwise acquire something that has really sides if you will then come with me. So I might have to start here.

I have not seen them, I am confused how he does it.... the OP is in North Carolina, so it may be an option.

That's a pretty incredible price for the base model.. it's too bad he's in North Carolina and I'm in california.. of course shipping might be an option.

I'm wondering too.. upon initial inspection , it seems he has to have close to the asking price in materials alone.

Thank you all for the many suggestions... I was lucky (I hope) enough to find a Pop-up that was in bad shape and in need of total reboot but the metal looks good and got it for a song. So the work is set to start. Look for a build thread coming.
