Missouri River was gorgeous. Nice weather with temperatures in the upper 40s. Crazy windy though so it felt quite a bit cooler.

As a kid I'd ride with my grandparents each summer from N. Georgia to go visit my great grandparents in Roxbury NY, a 14+ hour drive. My grandfather would have us in the car at 4am, he had two gas stations he liked that were the only stops on the way and we'd be in Roxbury for dinner. I liked the scenery in Virginia, but it does drag on forever.

Still doesn't top driving across Texas though...

By the way, I'm still in Virginia...5 more hours until home.

A little Florida trip this week. Did a little over 500 miles today and the truck averaged 17 mpg. Going to use that as a benchmark as I move forward with adding some heavier mods soon (rear swing out bumper and cap).

Ran into heavy rain in South GA and North FL. Had some time to check out muddy tracks in the area.

Tomorrow I'll finish my run down to Homestead. Orlando is my home for tonight.

I've heard there are only 2 seasons in Montana - winter and July!

It's not July... :p

63 and sunny here today, short sleeve weather. This is, however, the boring side of Montana. Lots more "amber waves of grain" and dramatically less "purple mountain majesty" here on the east side. I'm sure it's cooler in the mountains...

Right now I'd take views of grasslands over my current surroundings.

The next three weeks will be comprised of Oregon, Washington, Oklahoma and Texas. Today I had time to explore a bit of Silver Falls State Park outside Salem. Very nice state park with beautiful scenery to wander through. Very well marked and planned trail system and a ton of parking. Unfortunately that meant a lot of people. I showed up early enough to beat most of the crowds, but bailed after hiking about 1/2 of the 10 falls loop due to the growing number of folks.

On the way into the park I stopped at an overlook where I met a local named Rodney. I spent about 30 minutes talking with him about racing pigeons as he was out getting his birds some practice before some upcoming races. He even let me release one of his female flyers. Very cool guy and an interesting hobby I knew nothing about before today.

Did a little wandering today and got up high where it was cold.

But there were a lot of gates, private property and this:

Weather was breaking as I came back down the mountain.

Spent the remainder of the morning and early afternoon making a run down to Eugene through some gorgeous farm land framed by hills in the distance.
