Overland Expo 2018 WEST is NEXT WEEK. We look forward to seeing you in Flagstaff!
We just heard from Coconino County and they are increasing fire protocols for Coconino County and the Coconino National Forest due to extremely dry weather.

This affects all attendees and exhibitors at Overland Expo 2018 WEST
and I wanted to get you the information as soon as I could, because I know that many of you will be staying onsite or cooking while you’re at the show. Please comply with these and any future restrictions for the safety of the Flagstaff community.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

ALERT: DUE TO EXTREME DRY WEATHER THIS WINTER, THERE ARE INCREASED RESTRICTIONS ON FIRES, STOVES, & SMOKING.

Note that restrictions could INCREASE or DECREASE depending on weather.
————PLEASE BE PREPARED.————

COOKING & FIRES
WOOD / CHARCOAL FIRES / GRILLS: PROHIBITED

FIRE PITS, PROPANE: PROHIBITED (no flames allowed below dining table height)

CAMP STOVES, PROPANE / GAS: As of 5/5/18, allowed only on raised tables or in vehicles. Must have fire extinguisher at-hand. Motorcycle Camp area will have communal tables for setting up camp stoves (tables will have fires extinguishers). Never leave a stove unattended!

IF RESTRICTIONS INCREASE, SOME CAMPERS MAY BE ASKED TO RELOCATE TO ALTERNATE AREAS.

Please follow camp host / security team instructions & understand the seriousness of fire-control in extreme conditions.

PARKING
All vehicles must park on improved surfaces / in designated areas. No parking where there is high brush or grass.

SMOKING

Smoking is allowed only in designated areas.
There are five areas:
QUAD: West side, in patio between buildings west of Q12 & Q20
WEST COURT: Southwest end, near toilet complex
GRANDSTANDS, northwest side, by the toilet building
DISPERSED CAMP AREA, NORTH: Inside Posse Arena, west side
INSIDE YOUR VEHICLE: permitted unless all smoking banned
All butts must be completely doused / crushed and placed in provided containers.

For those of us camping, can someone clarify what “improved surfaces” translates to at the fairgrounds? Does that include the dispersed camping area?

In most cases around this area it's graded hard-pack soil. Like most high desert areas that have been dressed by a grader, very firm due to the low humidity and limited precipitation.

"Improved" can mean many things: simply graded; graded with an application of chat; graded with an application of chip and oil or even a layer of asphalt mix. You can find a mix of all four "improved" surfaces on the county fairgrounds.

Most traveled areas in the Ft Tuthill complex have been maintained by the state and county for decades and you should find no difficulties navigating to any of the areas outlined for travel by the Overland Expo crew. Navigate safely and with confidence!

Camping locations will be specified when you check in, they won’t leave you hanging and kick you out of your spot. Just ensure you ask what the current rules are when you check in.
