Otto - The Tundra

RCI makes a nice product for sure, customer service is lacking though. If they'd just communicate and be accurate that would solve half the problems.

Agreed. The instructions were lacking also.... They said 5 bolts per side. Only 4 usable holes. They did call finally when they shipped.

Mud flap time. I was going to DIY, but figured Rockblokz would save me some time..... For what they charge I would think they would fit a little better! I assumed I would have to massage the font due to my wheels/tires, but I figured the rears would fit. Nope. Had to drill and oval a couple holes, and if you want them to stick out to the max, the two large holes for the bumps are exposed.....

I went with sPOD. I like how the wiring terminates at the under hood unit. With the Switch Pro you need to wire it to a bus bar or directly to the Switch Pro wiring. I felt the sPOD will be a cleaner install... now if I could get my brackets back from powder coating id wire it up.
I went with the Spod as I have a 2020 Tundra Platinum Fit like a glove and I mounted the main unit on my fuse box nice clean install, Check you my post on the Grey Menace, I like this build so far just my 2 cents.

Yeah I decided to go another route. But also on top of the fuse box :)

There is a company that has a duel battery set up for the Tundra so you know. Genesis off road has a nice set up. Just my 2 cents

I have seen it, I just don't like how it uses smaller batteries. I have a single battery on order that is only 36AH less than the two that fit in the Genesis kit. Single battery OE size, no mods to fuse box and ABS computer locations, just the easy button for me.

A a 100 watt solar panel and your done!

This happened last week. And yes I am a dork.

Now I am mentally ruminating on switching options. I don't pan a ton of lighting. Spod or Switch Pros worth it? Id likely go switch pros as they can run daisy chained controllers. One in the bed, one in the cab would work well, but at the same time, do I need to turn driving lights on from the bed or bed lights from the cab?

I went with the Spod on my Tundra build see Grey menace

Well someone finally built what I have wanted..... (yes its a different truck, but they are making Tundra ones as well) I planned to DIY one at some point, but man that is tempting.

Very nice! From their Instagram account six weeks ago:

just need to update you that our Bed Replacement System (Flat Bed, Drop Sides & SmartCap XL) is now expected to hit North American shores sometime in early 2021. Costs for the Flat Bed will be $6,495–$6,995, the Drop Sides will be $1,195-$1,295, & the SmartCap XL will be $5,495-$5,995. Hope that answers your questions. And thanks for your interest in SmartCap!

So, about $13,000 for the trap and canopy. Plus other add-ons.

Well look what showed up!

Seems well built. But I hit all the edges with a flap disk, they were super sharp from cutting. Powdercoat doesn't hold up well on sharp edges.

Now to figure out TSS sensor relocation.

My safety orange goodies arrived! New 7/8 Kinetic rope from ASR, and matching shackles. Good to finally have to leave in the truck.

Hopefully bumper will done done this week, I can get that and the winch installed.

Well here we go! Bumper is back from powdercoat.

Service position. Note the grill is supposed to be put back on before bumper goes on..... I didn't....

Comeup 12.5rs and fog lights installed.

Bumper on!

Reinforcement brackets that bolt into the stock tow points. IMO good not to just rely on the frame horns.

Wiring in the rain....
50609302943_d4da1cd675_b.jpg

Wires from the solenoid pack to the winch itself were lice and long, and color coded too! Bolted the controller straight to the bumper next to the winch. T slots in the back made it easy! There is no good access to the controller. You can get to it from the front, barely. I figured if I was buried in a mud pit etc I really wouldn't want to try to plug the controller in under water. So all the wires got extended.

8 conductor marine tinned wire was used. Not much room to spread the splices out, so its a little ugly.
50610047346_8a8c20a2bd_b.jpg

Goobered the back of the plug with dielectric grease and wrapped up.

Whip up a little aluminum bracket.
50609303353_65eeebed42_b.jpg

Now the plug is next to the washer bottle under the hood.

Weatherpacks on the OE wiring for the fog lights.

Off to find a Xmas tree! Got rejected right around the corner sadly... Rain on snow makes for some snotty stuff, and being alone I didn't want to push it too far.
