Maxterra's oh-six Xterra. Trip pics updated 11-22-2016

Maxterra

Adventurist
Howdy all.
Here's my build tread of my X that I bought new in '07.
Started out with a PRG adv coilover kit (radflo 2.0 coilovers, uca's, rear AAL's and radflo emulsion shocks). Started building my own armor for it and took it offroading every chance I could.

Last winter, all the suspension was worn out and needed rebuilding or replacing, so opted to do the titan swap and make a huge improvement in capability and handling.

Off comes all the PRG advanced coilover kit components after 5 yrs or so of hard use. Everything pretty well worn out.

Man the frame looks fugly! Went up to O'reilly's and got a 3" cup brush for the die grinder and went to town once everything was off and cleaned it down to metal. Coat of primer & black and we're SO much better! Tita M205 front diff w/ ARB locker installed, Titan LCA's, tie rods. Damn if both old rear LCA bolts weren't seized and I had to sawzall them both off!!!

One side all complete and have installed radflo hydraulic bumpstops and poly-performance 14" limit straps (ended up having to double the limit straps as believe it or not, the 7k rating still stretched too far). Everything cleaned up and re-painted along the way. Brake lines installed and anchored into the back of the spindle to keep everything away from the tires, even the remote rez radflos had to be tucked in tight.

In the back, the m226 E-locker axle had some rework as well. New dropped and gusseted HD lower shock mounts so I could get all the travel out of the Fox 26" shocks for max travel & articulation. Raised up all the e-brake and brake line mounts & the abs sensor mounts for full articulation w/o pulling on anything. As always, had to add dimple dies to everything that I could. Timbren bumpstops up top for a cush stop at full compression. PRG U-bolt flip kit & diff cover too.

Testing the flex of the new alcan 3" lift 500+lb springs, shock travel & droop, and making sure everything extended or compressed without problems.

The Alcans are flexible, Very flexible!

Had it up to the point of just balancing on two tires. Everything looking good except for some future front fender trimming soon.

Still gotta install the viair ultra OBA setup so I can hook up the front locker. Rear locker now working now. At least off-road worthy again.
Just love the way it looks and rides! Can blast about any dip or curb at high speed and it just soaks it all up!!!!! :tunes:

So, List of things on this round of changes:
New M205, with ARB air locker installed.
Titan CV's
Moog LCA's
Moog inner & outer tie rods
Rough Country UCA"s
Radflo 2.5 w/remote rez coilovers
Radflo 2"x2" hyd bumpstops
Poly Performance adjustable bumpstop cans
Poly Performance 14" limit straps with upper mount kit
PRG stainless brake lines
PRG u-bolt flip kit
PRG cam bolt kit
Fox 2"x26" remote rez shock from Greg @ prg
Timbren rear bump stops
M226 out of a 2012 w 11k mi.
2" wheel spacers in rear
Alcan 3" rear springs w/450# cap.
PRG rear shackles
Rear driveline modified by Seagull Diesel w/parts from Tom Woods
E-locker harness for m226 locker switching
Viair Ultra OBA (200psi) w/5 gal tank

Next up:
4:56 gears
2" BL
35" tires
2nd battery
LED perimeter lighting on new roof rack (just installed)

Pretty much finished up now and a few trips under its belt.

With the wider control arms and almost double travel, bumpstops, better springs and rear shocks, all I can say is wow! Nice to hardly ever bottom out.

New 285 duratracs and just re-powder coated the wheels before a week in capitol reef last month.

Lots more to do to it and places to explore!

Very nice looking set up. And welcome to American Adventurist!

Thank you very much!

Loving this build. I've seen the titan swap done before. Is it pretty much a bolt on upgrade for your front end?

It is. The titan front diff assy bolts right in and even the driveshaft connects up.
Titan LCA's, CV's, tie rod assy all connect to existing. I'm running Rough Country UCA's to clear the coil buckets for full droop
Spindles, hubs and ABS sensors connect back up.

Whoever said to themselves, "gee, I wonder if titan running gear would fit my xterra" is GENIUS!

Still don't know why nissan wouldn't make this a factory OR option??

Oh, and thank you for the kind compliments.

Beamed across time and space to reach you!

Awesome build, of course!

I open your build threads on all the forums even though I've seen this truck 1000 times.

If I remember correctly, you're not building your front bumpers anymore? If you ever want to build them again, I'm very interested!

I still plan on doing a production plate style in the future. Just so damn busy in many directions right now, no time to develop and keep up with orders.
In mid development of a roof rack rear cargo area rack that I need to finish first.

I completely understand. I like the bumper you've got on your truck now. Build a new plate bumper and sell me the old one!! LOL

On the roof rack, dephep style or full replacement?

Drop in style. Can see it in some of the recent pics. Have to finish up shovel/axe and hilift mounts.

Damn, one of these days I will find a community and join it before you. One of these days I won't be 5 steps behind in my build either. Good to see you here!

Been a while since I've been on here, (got my password ironed out) but ought to update the build thread a bit.

The new rear bumper I installed in around April so's I can haul 10 more gallons of petrol

Then I built the new front bumper so's I can add a body lift and go to 35's. Old bumper frame mounts not adjustable and didn't want to cut it all up.

All new LED lighting in it, and even some 10w daytime running lights in the wings.

Got the 4:56 gearing ready to go in. Body lift is here. Just major bumper parts supplies purchasing going on right now, so no extra cash or time to finish it up at the moment.

Recently purchased a Mt Bailey RTT from CVT on their cyber Monday sale.
Heading out this weekend with the expedition Utah group on the annual "Freeze Your Tail Off" outing in the Utah west desert along the NV border.
Stoked to try it out!

Thinking it will be much easier and faster to set up that a regular tent or sleeping inside it.
