M416 trailer shock help

After I flipped my M416 , I made some corrective measures. I made sure my lunette arm was lubed up and changed out the 10ply LT tires for a 32.11.50X15 on 15 X 8 jeep wheels.

With the tires aired down to 10lbs the trailer stays on the ground no matter the terrain. The trailer does bounce around that indicated the shocks are not working.

I am sprung-over and the shocks are old shocks from my lifted FJ-60. Any suggestions of how to determine what shocks I should use to better dampen the trailer?

Thanks

I just picked up some Monroe Light Truck shocks from NAPA. Sorry I don't remember which model they are and it's too cold and dark to go look right now. I'll try to remember to look tomorrow. Busy day though.

Taken from a portal thread that you responded to in '08:

The military technical manual for the M416 (TM 9-2330-251-14, September 1990 printing) does not list specifications for the shocks, only the CAGEC number (76445) and the part number (18459). The ORD part # for the M416 shock is 7088715.

CAGEC 76445 = Monroe
Nominal Extended Length = 17.438 inches
Nominal Compressed Length = 10.938 inches

Shocks that fit the M416, M100, Willys MBT and Bantam T3 are also available from NAPA, part number RR 94038,

Specifications are:
Nominal Extended Length = 17.875 inches
Nominal Compressed Length = 11.25 inches

the same dude that provided that info says to the OP

I just noticed that your original post mentions doing a spring-over conversion. That will alter slightly the collapsed and expanded lengths of the shocks you will need because the stock configuration has the lower shock mount under the spring and a spring-over flips the spring plate/shock mount to the top of the spring. This suggests a slightly shorter shock. However, since the shocks are mounted at an angle, the reduction in optimum shock length will be less than the thickness of the spring pack, which means this probably won't be an issue unless you plan to use the full articulation of your trailer springs, and even then you can compensate for shocks a little too long when fully compressed with slightly thicker bump stops (or a steel spacer under the stock bump stops).

To which you add:

I have the Monroe shocks on myck mounts trailer. Just remember to relocate the shock mounts to the bottom of the axle or you will be wasting your time as the shock will be too compressed to do anything.

I don't know if any of that was useful or not but I will say I'm happy with Napa Response 94038 shocks on my M101CDN. But I'm still SUA and no longer running the military 10 leaf spring pack.

Thanks I totally forgot about asking about this . After I asked about this , I had to get out of the hobby for a couple of years. Now back with lots of unfinshed projects.

Old Man Emu Dakar Leaf springs CS013FA Heavy versions for a Zuk.

Good luck finding a pair though. They come across from Australia on the slow boat in small qtys. Took me a months to get them. I ordered mine from Wil over at Sierra Expeditions . Your best bet would be to have someone local build a pack specifically for your M416. a lot easier and less headaches.
