How to link pictures in my Google Photos?

Trying to post pictures directly from the link generated in my Google Photos...but to no avail.

Is there a trick? Do I have something set incorrectly?

I go to the photo in Google Photos, generate a link to it, then come here and select "image" and then post the link there...but get nothing but an icon showing a broken image followed by , and no picture anywhere.

select the image icon from the toolbar header and paste the link

If you're on a PC you can right click on the image and select "view image" from the drop down menu. The URL you see in the address bar is to the actual image.

Okay, so I can't use the "shared link" that Google Photos generates...that's pretty dumb (thanks, google). But if I open the image and then right click and "copy image address" it works.
