Hobie adventure.... on Great Lake

I figured it was time to post one of my kayaking adventures, seeing how it's been a VERY longoing time since I ventured out onto the water. My go-to place is a lake hidden away away in the Croatan national forest. It's called great lake, but I call it MY lake. 1. Because every I me I go there I have the entire lake to myself, which is RIGHT up my alley... it's so quiet that a hawk flew over me and I could hear his wings pushing the air. 2. Because everytime I go there I clean up all of the trash left there by irresponsible wankers. 3. Because like the crazy Irish fellow in Braveheart (who claimed Ireland was HIS), I can.

The lake has a small boat launch which is VERY shallow, discouraging undesireables with oversized motorized vessels. The shoreline is also very shallow. As I've circumnavigated the perimeter lake, I've encountered old duck hunting blinds scattered about and an abandoned camp in the woods only accessible by water, all long forgotten by time....

I've encountered the occasional curious croc and jumping fish, but that's about the extent of the company; other than the beautiful and unique trees reaching for the heavens from beneath the waters surface. I only had my crummy phone camera to capture photos, so I apologize, in advance, for that.

Great photos! The water looks like glass. There is nothing like having a lake to yourself.

As you found, yes. None of it is isolated primitive camping though.... Its campground style. There are small random places in he woods but few and far between. The launch site at geat lake has a little bit of room...
