Adventure Brigade's Offroad Teardrop Trailer

Starting a thread as I have some building and modifications that I'm doing to my new to me offroad teardrop trailer:
1. How I got it:

2. Then, we started to get it out of the rough start phase. We decided to paint and lay down primer for eventual faux marble/brick backsplash.

3. We were about to go on a test trip, so I added in the solar power that has moved with me from the Westfalia van to the man van and now to the trailer. It's not a permanent mount. I want to park in the shade and run the panel out to the sun. The connector is Perko marine grade waterproof. It goes inside to a Sunsaver 6.

4. We had a fun first trip!

5. Came back and I finished up the rear galley.

Next up, painting the inside. We're going with a very light blue for the cieling to add light, the same blue walls as the galley and the same dark blue trim. I'll also be redoing all of the wiring since the builder used speaker wire for primary wires. Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't built to go rock crawling, but then again, I wouldn't go rock crawling with a trailer anyways. Most of the crawler trails don't go to campsites anyways. Most of our campsites are down 4x4 accessible roads which this trailer will do fine with thoughtful pulling. It pulled great going on our first trip.

Other future mods include:
1. running water for onboard hot shower
2. propane lines for shower and fast connect to stove
3. drop down tray/cutting board space
4. hopefully a door/tray for the fridge on a pullout in rear storage although I'm torn on that because I like the fridge in the car for cold drinks on the trail...although sometimes I break eggs (even in the plastic container )
5. LED lighting conversion + LED lights in the galley

I know I am not that close to you in distance, but if you ever need a place to work on your trailer, you are welcome to anything in my shop.
Hell, you could stay there if you had to. Can't wait to see your new acquisition. I king of feel I may have had something to do with your decision.
That and a missing set of tent poles!
Jeff

Thanks! We went camping this weekend. I had a very busy week so I wasn't able to get any work done on the trailer. I tore out all the electrical to get ready to redo it.

Hmm... some hand at the other site is thinking about building a teardrop trailer, and we were all discussing that project. I had an idea for dressing up the exteriors of teardrop trailers: painting radical wildlife coats on the trailers, such as zebra stripes, leopard spots, tiger stripes, crocodile & alligator hide, etc. Does anyone here remember that "Daktari" show where the Land Rovers were all painted in zebra stripes? Sheeeeee-it, you pull into a remote camping area towing a teardrop trailer like THAT and you'd be an instant hit, the life of the outdoor party. I reckon other external paint jobs would look good too, like Superhero graphics: how many Batman or Spiderman Teardrops could one sell in this economy? Killer street or industrial art would fly in the right environment, and throw in some camouflage numbers for hunters in the field... just a passing thought from this old hand before I venture into the wilds of Dago this morning. If I ever build a teardrop trailer, I'll be sure to personalize that bad boy like no other... maybe a radical Confederate theme with the "Stars & Bars" thrown into the mix, along with some old Civil War ironclads.

P.S. I happened to look up "Daktari" earlier, since I used to watch that show in the '60s, and one site showed a zebra-striped Jeep, but I know I saw at least one Land Rover in that program... could've sworn it was striped too, but maybe I'm wrong, that was a LONG time ago and much has happened since then. One of the drawbacks of getting old: the memory tends to slip a gear or two. Nevertheless, I think some cool graphics on those teardrops would look primo. I once saw a vehicle in Phoenix that had its entire exterior done in desert graphics, with cactus and everything; looking at that vehicle was like looking at the desert, and the graphics were top quality. Surfers could totally style out their teardrop trailers with wave-riding graphics for camping at the beach, climbers could put some hardcore solo action on theirs to show at Hidden Valley or Yosemite... the possibilities are endless.

Getting some help on the tongue extension. Really it's not an extension vs replacement! Jeff is tying futher back on the original frame and he'll add a moto mount up front:

Yes, she is being held captive in my shop. Getting close to done. Adding a rack for misc. items and a rack to carry his dual sport.
Receiver tube has yet to be cut to length.
She is getting close. Hope to be done this weekend.
Jeff

I remember Daktari and the zebra stripe paint schemes. My memory would have told me that Daktari and Wild Kingdom used Land Rovers, and The Rat Patrol was in Jeeps.

So I made a quick jaunt to LA to grab the trailer back. Jeff has amazing skills. The entire tongue is new, longer, contains a bigger cargo rack and the aluminum motorcycle ramp is removable with a few bolts yet solid as anything! The spare tire was relocated to the side and reinforced with a mounting point inside the trailer. I'll load the bike and fill the Jeep's airbags to show how it sits soon, but I realized that while I told Jeff to face the rack going one direction, I forgot that that would make me have to load the bike from the driver side...not ideal while on a public street haha. Good thing there's a big parking lot next door!

Well, now that living in my trailer is over and it's Labor Day weekend coming up, I thought I'd get my butt in gear and start getting on all those plans I have. I began painting the inside. The top is a very light blue. The walls are a medium sky blue - but I'm not sure I like it...we'll see.

That looks awesome! I'd add some flying unicorns and glitter on the bulkheads and maybe some glow-in-the-dark stars on the overhead. That would be really awesome... ;)

How about I do the stars and blacklights? Maybe an Endless Summer poster? Red velvet comforter. Maybe a lava lamp?

So I repainted the walls...wasn't digging the crazy blue. It was just 'in your face' and also reminded me a 5 year old's bedroom. Lame. I guess this means no blacklights or Velvetine Lone Wolf comforter.

So I can't seem to find my paint brush. Nor my drill bits. Nor some miscellaneous tools I needed, so instead I installed the stereo. It's Labor Day weekend after all and I wanna party!
