Joshs recent posts about his new vehicle brought to mind a question. I'm wanting a roof rack that uses the factory rack mounting points or the factory rack itself. I want one longer than the factory rack, part of the reason I want it is to put plywood on it to give shade to the roof, so longer is better. Cargo use would be secondary, but still part of the purpose.
Is anything available that's relatively economical and does what I'm wanting?
ETA: Found one that should do. Going to try to get another factory rack crossbar for more rigidity, but with a plywood sheet on the bottom it may not be necessary. If this is total junk, please let me know. I realize its not top end, but think it will cover my needs. With the 21" extension, it will cover from a few inches behind the front of the sunroof to a few inches forward of the rear hatch door.

Ive used plywood in the rack on top of my old Nissan camper shell, it seemed to help reduce the heat inside. I semi-recently noticed in pics of older Land Rovers that they seemed to have a shade layer over the main roof*.
*Think that is called a Tropical Roof?
