Itscheesey trailer build

I have recently ventured down this path and now it's time to start a thread about my on going build.

I got a RTT off a gentleman on CG before I really knew a whole lot about the various brands. Its a no name Chinese made one that was brand new in the box.

We soon found the necessity of being able to put the tent on a trailer but not want to spend an arm and leg to buy one I have decided to build one.

My mother's boyfriend said he had a HB trailer that I could have. Best part is it comes with a NV title. So I picked it up and started cleaning it up and welding it up to make it rigid.

Here's how I got the trailer home.

It's not the gear, it's the getting out there and doing it. Your gear needs will evolve and be acquired over time...repeatedly!

I'd have to say your 100% right. I grew up a boy scout back packing my ass off all over the southwest part of the states. Now that I have a wife and kids I feel like a backpacker that is glamping.

Here is some more progress on the box.

I used a set of XJ leaf spring and a Dana 35 I had laying around for the axle until I can get a custom one made. The tires are 33" bfg also from the XJ now that it's on 35s

I have added some wood panels to the inside to hold stuff in place until I can figure out how I'm going to skin it.

I also have been working out the kinks in the lift rack for the RTT.

Looks great!!!!!!!! Keep the build pics coming! My girl and I were thinking about either building a trailer or purchasing a pop up trailer. :like

Looks like a great start. Our trailer started off as a harbor freight frame. They are not the best thing out there, but they are certainly under rated and with a little reinforcement can really take the abuse and do great on the trail

I ordered 60# lift struts for the rack system from a company call lift struts depot. They are in San Marcos and I had a co worker on a job site down there swing by and pick them up for me.
They hold the weight of the tent perfectly and they don't shoot up when I unpin the rack either. Also bringing it back down is easy for me by myself but even faster with 2 people.

Now that I got the tent mounted it was time to start and focus on compartmentalizing the storage area to hold our kitchen.
Which will consist of an Edgstar 63l fridge/freezer and a Camp Chef Oven.
Both of which I found on Craigslist before I started building the trailer.
I also found 4 MWC and 1 red MFC for $100 from a guy in Corona also on Craigslist.

Then it was off to Austin Hardwoods in Santa Ana to get the 3/4" birch plywood I used to build the slide out cabinets. I had been researching different ways to do this since I wanted to make it as functional as possible. I ended up recreating a design I saw from down under that's not available here in the states or within my budget.

It's been a busy few past weekend's with MRV and then a family trip to Kern.

Here is more for you.

I've been on a search for jeep style fenders locally and couldn't find any. I stopped in Shadow trailers in Cypress and they had a pair of 12" wide ones on the shelf. So I took them and headed home to install them.

I built steps on either side so I can mount my scepter cans. I had to notch the fenders and spread them a bit to fit the 33" tires the way I liked.

I took Friday off from work in order to finish the trailer to make it to MRV. And boy did I get a bunch done. I installed the younger box wired lights. Finished the drawer fronts added paracord handles to them. And finally at 10pm we were off.
Made it all the way to forest falls on hwy 38 and the driver side tire and spacer said "Bye Felicia". Luckily we were only doing 40 and there was only one other vehicle on the road with us.
He stopped to make sure we were alright and helped me find the tire/spacer. Got that back on and made it to camp.(NOTE: ALWAYS USE LOCK-TITE) This was the only key step I skipped in my mad rush to get to MRV. It only resulted in a bent fender.
I'll post pics when I get them from my wife's phone

Then we made it to the campsite and found somewhere to park and set up. By this time it was 3am. But we made it none the less. Here are some pics of the trailer setup in the morning.
