Tire Tubes ?

OK, I admit it. I'm old enough to remember messing around with tires with tubes in them, back when I was teaching myself to drive around a field in an old 53 Plymouth.

Does anybody carry a spare inner tube as a just in case, last resort tire fix?

I'm half thinking it might be a good idea, and half thinking that if a tire is beyond fixing conventionally, it's probably so rough and ragged inside the tube won't last long either.

Anybody got any practical experience with this idea?

I think the OP's question is whether or not anyone carries a tube for emergency repairs on a tire that has sidewall damage, etc, that can't be repaired with tire plugs.

I don't carry one. I've stitched a sidewall together with stainless steel wire and then plugged the crap out of it to limp off of a trail before.

That's not a bad idea. The best tubes come from a Firestone truck and farm tractor dealer. They are super thick. I changed out my Staun internal bead lock tubes for those and have had no more leaks. A 12" tube can easily stretch to fit a 15" rim so don't be overly concern with the size.
