They should just ban gas cans completely because of the danger. Same idea as banning restaurants. In CA, they have passed a law banning gas tanks in cars in a few years so why not get started with gas cans now?

The Bobcat Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains

Most Cabin owners finally got the news about their cabins from the Forest Service. My Cabin somehow survived. A few of my best friends in the Canyon lost their cabins so I am still sad. At least 10 of the 80 cabins were totally annihilated along with a whole slew of outbuildings such as...

The Bobcat Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains

Thanks for this Eric. I checked the map and it shows that no damage assessment has been done in our canyon. Based on photos taken from trailhead at Chantry Flats down into the Canyon, we can see three cabin rooftops confirming their survival. I am getting more hopeful! Cam

I've got no information still! You know what I know. We are still not allowed into the Canyon to see what happened. Thanks for touching base! Cam

The Bobcat Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains

This photo of the Big Santa Anita Canyon was taken by a fire fighter at the Chantry Flats trailhead that drops 500 feet (elevation) into our canyon. There are 80 cabins scattered about the canyon complex and can only be reached by hiking one to four miles. As you can see, the canyon walls have...

The Bobcat Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains

The fire blazed all the way though our canyon. No one is allowed in. We have no Idea if our cabins are standing. The media keeps saying that no structures were burned. They have no clue. Cam

The Bobcat Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains

The Bobcat Fire started Sunday afternoon near the Cogswell reservoir on the West Fork of the San Gabriel River which is just north of the front range of the San Gabriel Mountains above Arcadia and Duarte in CA. The fire has already breached the 5,000 foot ridge above the city and is now moving...

This is just a play to make their museum more interesting - it makes me sick. Is Dennis still alive? He would hate this. I would be willing to go out there before February and move the displays close to the road so that they are out of the "wilderness area". Is anyone in? Those displays...

    Mojave Rd. mailbox

The maps show the wilderness boundary on either side of the Mojave road. What is unclear is how far off the road does the "wilderness" begin. I would imagine that road corridors through wilderness areas would have to be at least 200' wide to allow for some road realignment do to washouts and...

    The Random Thoughts Thread

Based on what I am seeing now on Netflix, Amazon and the rest of TV, it appears that about 50% of all women are lesbians, 20% of all men are gay and 110 lb. women have no problem taking down 240 lb., 6' 2" men.

I think that the end game for all of this that the back country will be closed to the public "to preserve it" and only government officials and card carrying environmentalists (with government grants) will be allowed entry for "study" (enjoyment). The public will be fined for stepping off the...
